| As individuals and
families prepare to attend Green County Cheese Days on September
19-21, they should be ready to see a new and exciting attraction
as they approach the NW corner of Monroe’s Historic
Square.
The Family Farm Adventure, sponsored by Green
County Farm Bureau, was invited to host the popular “AgVenture”
after piloting the event during the 2008 Green County Farm
Technology Days. The tent will have many educational and hands-on
stations that will provide youth and adults a better sense
of Wisconsin’s Dairy Industry and Green County’s
rich agricultural heritage.
The implementation of the Family Farm Adventure
seemed like a natural fit to replace the Farm and Factory
Tours which are no longer able to be a part of Cheese Days.
Green County Farm Bureau was awarded grant money from the
2007 Green County Farm Tech Days event to help make the Family
Farm Adventure a mobile educational display that can be used
at future agriculture based events and for years to come.
Jeff Ditzenberger, President of the Green County
Farm Bureau, encourages folks to come check it out. “With
the generational gap that affects the connection of Agriculture
with the consumer, our goal is to bridge that gap, and to
inform the public in a fun, yet educational way, where their
food comes from and how well the producers who make it take
care of the animals and the land. The Family Farm Adventure
is designed to do just that now, and for future generations."
Highlights of the tent will include: Measuring
Up to Farm Animals, Get your picture taken on a real tractor,
learn about dairy breeds and feeds, pet dairy calves in the
farm animal display, test your dairy knowledge and win prizes,
farm safety 101, putt for your prize, pedal tractor driving
area, and youth and adults can show off and promote the dairy
industry by showcasing their own Milk Moustache!
The Family Farm Adventure will be open during
the following times during Cheese Days weekend. Friday: 2
pm to 7 pm, Saturday: 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday: 10-12:30 pm;
and from 3-5 pm after the Cheese Days parade. For more information,
